Completion of Implementation of Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems for Jamaica
January 12, 2016
The Renewable Energy Department has completed the implementation of eighteen grid -connected solar photovoltaic systems for schools and public sector agencies throughout Jamaica. The systems vary in size from 5kW to 60kW with a total output for the eighteen sites of 235.20kW. The final implementation was done in close cooperation with client and local end-users ensuring the proper transferring of know-how.
The project is part of Jamaica’s National Energy Policy (2009-2030), to ensure the penetration of renewable energy sources into the national grid. In addition, the implementation also measures to reduce the burden, on the public purse, resulting from the energy consumption costs related to the operation of public sector entities in Jamaica.
