Off-grid Renewable Energy Systems for Ghana

                                                                                    January 31, 2015

The Government of the Republic of Ghana received in 2013 a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for procuring the supply and installation of Solar Stand Alone Power Systems and Rechargeable Lanterns for Off-Grid Basic Schools in 98 districts throughout Ghana.

Ghana Energy Development and Access Project (GEDAP) was in charge of the process and JGH A/S was together with their local partners selected as supplier and installer of these systems and recharge lanterns through International Competitive Bidding.

JGH A/S has recently started the implementation of the PV systems and is to complete the same approximately in March 2015. As a vital part of the transfer of knowledge and understanding of renewable energy in general, JGH A/S has arranged for an intensive training course of their local partners and GEDAP personnel from 17-23rd December 2014 in Sogakope, Ghana.

It is the intension that such training course will not only educate the participants in the usage, possibilities and limitations of the PV Systems, but also expand the general understanding of renewable energy and its opportunities within Ghana. With the increasing cost of fossil fuel and diesel, renewable energy provides a price effective and clean alternative to existing power generating in Ghana.
